Temple Run: Three Days in Angkor Wat

' The Great Gate To Angkor'

Siem Reap was definitely our favourite place in Cambodia! Angkor Wat is the major tourist attraction and it is truly an amazing place, we would highly recommend booking the three day pass to explore as many temples as you can! The best way to get around is to hire a tuc-tuc driver for the day (or three if you are happy with him) and they will wait outside the temple until you’ve finished exploring, then take you to the next one. Hotels do offer their own tuck-tuc services, but we preferred paying the drivers directly.

After a long day trekking through the temples the walking street night market is a great place to buy food (look out for the barbecued chicken!) and enjoy a drink at the many bars. There’s also a busy market square selling the typical market tat, as well as a locals market further down the road that sells meat, fish, fruit and vegetables during the day.

The Temples

Angkor Wat

One of the main reasons you visit Cambodia is to see the wonder of Angkor Wat, and it doesn't disappoint. You could explore the ancient ruins for hours and find something new at every turn!

Bayon

One of our favourites because of the giant faces that watch you explore the dark corridors and shadows within the temple. Don't miss out this one!

Ta Phrom

This was the temples we were most looking forward to seeing, and it certainly didn't disappoint. The roots growing into the ancient stones of the temple make you realise how nature has claimed this place - and makes you think back to what it must have been like in its hay day.

Ta Som

If you like the look of Ta Phrom, then this will be right up your street. Roots are slowly swallowing up this underrated temple which makes for an epic photo! Ta Phrom steals the limelight from Ta Som but we preferred it; much less busy and a nice surprise!

Neak Poan

You might feel slightly underwhelmed when you arrive at Neak Poan, but we felt the beauty was in its surroundings. Walking along a wooden bridge, that leads to the temple, throught rice fields with bathing buffalo was a different experience altogether.
