The Lion City

Once you set foot in Singapore it would be easy to believe you had been transported into the future! For a country that boasts one of the most impressive manmade skylines in the world, it seems unlikely that it would also be a country with one of the greenest, eco-friendly and environmentally aware agendas as well. The unusual combination of pure unadulterated ecosystems in exotic jungles next to supreme urbanisation works incredibly well and makes Singapore an unbelievable place to visit.

There’s so much to do in Singapore that however much time you have here, you’ll always have something new to discover. We spent five days, and our favourite things were spotting wild otters in the Gardens by the Bay, hiking around Mount Faber and eating at the hawker centres.

Although Singapore has a reputation for being the most expensive city in the world, it is still possible for budget travellers to have a great time here; a lot of the main attractions are free, and hawker centres sell really tasty food for under £6 per meal. Having said that, budget accommodation is relatively pricey and you should expect to pay over £20 for a sleeping pod in a dorm room with shared bathroom.
